Location (Directions)

The South Shore Waldorf School (SSWS) is an independent school enthusiastically run by its committed teachers, parents and supportive friends. It is located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, a peaceful rural area which boasts historic sites such as Mahone Bay and the Town of Lunenburg (designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The area offers lakes and woods for outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing and kayaking and is home to the most beautiful beaches in the country. It is an area rich with farm markets, an arts and crafts community and is only a 60-minute drive from the historic and vibrant city of Halifax, for those occasions when you need city-style culture and recreation.

At present, SSWS is comprised of three classes (nursery/kindergarten, grades 1-3 and grades 4-6) with a total enrolment of 30 students. Our first five years were spent in a picturesque schoolhouse situated at the foot of a lakeside farm near the town of Bridgewater. Seven years ago, to reflect our changing needs, we relocated to a character-filled 60-year-old schoolhouse that sits on seven acres of fields and trees in the community of Blockhouse, minutes away from the historic village of Mahone Bay.

Our school is young and growing; our children enthusiastic and creative; and our teachers, parents and friends dedicated to the flourishing of our community. The entire school body (children, parents, teachers and friends alike) is involved in all aspects of running the school – renovating the building, fundraising, organizing guest lectures, developing school policy, enrolling new students and much more.
