Our little school is proud to announce that on June 23rd, 24th, and 25th of this year, we shall be hosting the first Chiron-East Conference. It is a compilation of various workshops lead by experienced Waldorf Educators, for anyone interested in learning more about Waldorf education and methodology, plus child and adult development.

The Chiron Initiative has been run in Toronto for many years (www.chiron.ca). It provides curriculum intensives and resources for homeschoolers, parents and teachers interested in integrating a Waldorf approach to education and home life. We have the honour to have the Toronto Chiron Program Leader, Gene Campbell, help us in starting up this Eastern Conference 2008. In addition to Gene, we also are delighted that Kathy and John Grant-McLoughlin, both experienced educators who are also involved with the Toronto Chiron Conference, will be presenting workshops. Other well-experienced presenters are our very own Faculty Chair, Judy King; Dr.Maggie Keppie, a PhD focused on children; and Kathleen Purdy, founder of the Alexander Society (curative arts and play programming) and with knowledge of eurythmy.

Six workshops will be presented over the three-day conference, with one on each morning and afternoon. Our Co-Chair of the Board, Anne Greer, is finalizing the details of the workshops which may include adult and child development, teaching math, reading and literacy, form drawing, integration of arts into education, eurythmy, and learning through fairytales. The workshops will run from 9am-12pm and 1-4pm. Together, we shall convene a half hour before the morning workshop to open the day and a half hour after the afternoon workshop to close the day.

The three-day conference fee is $200 per person. A 25% discount is applicable for couples. Individual workshops are $35 each. Break time snacks will be provided for each workshop and lunch will be included in the full conference fee.

For our friends who may be travelling to attend the Chiron-East Conference, there will be space in the Kindergarten room for overnight stays at a nominal fee. Camelia Frieberg has also offered the use of her straw-bale house at her organic farm, with cost to be determined.

As this is our first Conference and there are many details to organize, we will not be providing childcare for attendees. Please plan your own childcare for the time period of 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Please check back regularly for more updates as they develop. For more information, contact Winnie Chan-Ferguson at sswaldorf@waldorfns.org or 902-624-0874.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!
