Admission by donation

Come and experience the Waldorf School tradition of the Oberufer Shepherds’ Play.

December 13 & 14, 7:00pm

Admission is donation.

Performed by teachers, parents, alumni and friends of the South Shore Waldorf School, this whimsical and humorous play follows the story of the shepherds as they make their way to the manger where the newborn Jesus lay. Facing interruption by an awesome angel, personal scheduling challenges and last minute gifting decisions, they eventually find their good-hearted way to deliver their gifts to the Christ Child.

All ages will enjoy this play!

The Oberufer Plays originate in the early Middle Ages. Period source materials of the 16th century suggest that the plays gained greater cultural importance following the flight of Protestants escaping the Counter-Reformation, who subsequently settled in Hungary. The plays are named for the town of Oberufer on the Danube, where Protestant refugees from the region of Lake Constance settled. The plays were a comfortable and traditional cultural anchor in a new land.
